Comune di Numana
Numana is one of the most unusual towns of the middle Adriatic. From the foot of Mount Conero, Numana unwinds along steep slopes loaded with history, before extending in the characteristic, airy little port. The inhabitants divided the town into two districts: Numana Alta and Numana Bassa.
The first is the older portion, with the white limestone houses, the narrow streets of the ‘Tower’ area, the bishop’s palace, today home to the town hall that faces onto Piazza del Santuario, juxtaposed against the modern church housing the SS. Crocifisso di Numana, one of the most beautiful and enigmatic works of the Christian culture.
Numana Bassa is, we can say, the ‘younger’ area. Here, we have the tourist port, one of the best equipped in Italy for leisure boating, and the various bathing establishments.
The town developed behind the hills ahead. Here the areas of the Svarchi and the Taunus Village provide the option of staying in complete peace and quiet. Continuing south from the port, we find the division of Marcelli, the most modern area, where the most frenetic life of the Numana nights takes place, filled with tourist facilities and meeting points.
Hence, Numana is the perfect blend of ancient and modern. The historical beauty of the monuments and churches integrates with the natural beauty of beaches, cliffs and paths in woodlands, in a frame that blends, in a perfect balance, wild nature and modern comfort.
The visitor’s and tourist’s demands can thus be fully satisfied by Numana’s facilities, making it one of the most evocative tourist centres of the Adriatic.
